A FORMER karting rival of motor sport legends Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna will be showcasing the history of British stock car racing at a special exhibition at a Somerset classic car event this summer.

Johnny Painter, the man behind BriSCA Heritage – the British Stock Car Association – will display a range of cars from the 1950s through to the present day, including a 1982 National Points Championship Formula One vehicle raced by Mike Close. Painter has been involved in the scene for more than 50 years, and raced against multiple-time F1 champs Prost and Senna during his days in the British Formula One Karting team.

New to the event, the BriSCA heritage demonstration arena will also offer visitors the chance to watch these stripped back racing machines in action throughout the weekend, from small capacity highly tuned Junior racers, right up to the monstrous 10L V8 Chevrolet owned by Johnny Painter himself.

Event Planner Andrew Kitchen said, “I am very excited to announce the introduction of a brand new demonstration arena, supported by British Stock Car Association stalwart Johnny Painter. With a range of spectacular race machines in tow, we are confident that Johnny is going to prove a huge hit with the thousands of classic car enthusiasts who pour through the gates. I just hope I have a few spare minutes to see some of the weekend’s action!”

Renowned as one of the biggest and best classic car events of the year, The Footman James 37th Bristol Classic Car Show, which takes place on June 18-19, 2016 at The Royal Bath and West Showground, will also host a range of ‘Star Cars’ which have captured the imagination of audiences worldwide.
